Piper Drawers

£350.00

My ‘homage to John Piper’ drawers (with my Ceri Richards Chair)

I’ve always been a fan of John Piper, not just for his paintings of historic architecture and landscapes, which he is probably best know for, but for his abstract works. For a short period he was involved with the avant-garde and associated with Axis, a journal of abstract art edited by his wife Myfanwy Evans (my namesake). Amongst his own collection of paintings were works by Piet Mondrian and Alexander Calder.

This piece of furniture was inspired by a painting entitled ‘Abstract I’ which he painted in 1935, now on show in the Tate collection.

…loved throwing myself into this one – I really like it when a piece has meaning.

Painted in Annie Sloan Chalk paint, it has a painterly looking finish, and sealed with a blend of waxes with some distressing to give an aged look.

Dimensions:

Height 102cm

Width 67cm

Depth 39cm

In excellent condition, but as with all upcycles, the piece has been well used, therefore please expect some signs of characterful wear and tear. It’s good to be able to see and feel the history of the piece.

Due to the hand painted design the piece has a slightly textured surface in places which just adds to its uniqueness.

The price reflects the fact that this is unique and is a one-off, and features entirely original artwork.

Delivery charges will be applied at checkout - there is a standard charge of £50 to all UK addresses. We are also happy for you to collect or organise your own couriers if you prefer - collection will be from Cardiff CF23..
