‘Homage to Vernon Watkins’ Bureau Cabinet

Painted in Annie Sloan Athenian Black, Oxford Navy, and a touch of English Yellow. Old White inside, and finished with wax for protection.

Inside glazed sections have been decoupaged with text from the portfolio ‘Journey Towards the North’ by Roberto Sanesi. Text includes ‘Concerning Wales’, Elegy for Vernon Watkins’ and ‘The Cut in the Rock’

Inspiration came from Ceri Richards’ lithograph ‘Music of Colours - White Blossom’ (illustrated in one of the picture), based on a poem written by Vernon Watkins …. ‘White must die black, to be born white again'. Ceri Richards also produced lithographs to accompany the text from the portfolio ‘Journey towards the North’, where the text comes from.

In excellent condition, but as with all upcycles, the piece has been well used, therefore please expect some signs of characterful wear and tear. It’s good to be able to see and feel the history of the piece.

Due to the hand painted design the piece has a slightly textured surface in places which just adds to its uniqueness. The price reflects the fact that this is unique and is a one-off and features original artwork.
