Charleston Drawers

£495.00

A very good friend gave me a chest of drawers – she would have thrown it in the skip if I hadn’t rescued it. The draws were sticky and it was showing its age in chips and marks to the wood, but it offered me the opportunity to just ‘go for it’ with the painting. I had recently returned from a trip to Charleston House in East Sussex. For those not familiar, it’s a farmhouse associated with the Bloomsbury group, and the country home of Vanessa Bell and Duncan Grant who decorated almost all the features of the house, painting the walls, floor and furniture in their distinctive style. Feeling liberated by the visit, and taking inspiration from the decoration, I went at it to paint the drawers using Annie Sloan paints (who’s colour palate was also inspired by the house). Here’s the result ….

… and I absolutely love it!

These painterly drawers are sealed with a blend of waxes with some distressing to give an aged look.

Dimensions:

Height 113cm

Width 112cm

Depth 52cm

In good condition, but as with all upcycles, the piece has been well used, therefore please expect some signs of characterful wear and tear. It’s good to be able to see and feel the history of the piece.

Due to the hand painted design the piece has a slightly textured surface in places which just adds to its uniqueness.

The price reflects the fact that this is unique and is a one-off, and features entirely original artwork.

Delivery charges will be applied at checkout - there is a standard charge of £50 to all UK addresses. We are also happy for you to collect or organise your own couriers if you prefer - collection will be from Cardiff CF23.
